Miles
Before we met Miles, he remembers his life feeling lonely and purposeless. From working inconsistently to missing out on valuable time with friends and family, it just didn’t ever seem to feel “right”. At that point in Mile’s life, he was searching for something to make him feel less alone.
Miles recalls struggling with addiction in those days. The substances helped numb the pain that he felt for a little while but that didn’t last long. Miles fell into the grasp of drugs and addiction eventually overtook his life completely. Miles lost his job and his will to find a community of support. Without the structure of a job, he went further into a path of destruction and found himself involved in criminal activities. He knew his life wasn’t what he has imagined for himself but didn’t know how to get out of the cycle he was in.
Losing his source of income, normality, and routine was a wake-up call for Miles. He thought he was feeling lonely and lacking purpose before but being fired drilled the nail in the coffin for him – enough was enough.
Although it wasn’t easy, and there were many pieces to pick up and relationships to mend along the way, Miles knew that the juice was going to be worth the squeeze. Diligently, day after day, he worked to make things right. He served his time, got clean, sought out help, and eventually regained employment. Seeing the changes, he was making and the work he was putting into improving his life, his family supported and encouraged him to keep on going.
Miles says “if you have the love of your family (or any genuine support system), you have everything. Don’t give up and don’t let go.”
